The Old Forge Pond and The Forge Motel property mark the beginning of the chain of 8 lakes. This lakefront area is the site of the 4th of July and the Labor Day fireworks and various visitor events throughout the year. The lakes provide endless forms of recreation: from boating to water sports, fishing and canoeing.

“The Snowmobile Capital of the East” due to its heavy snowfall, Old Forge provides easy access to nearly 500 miles of groomed trails. Visitors can rent snowmobiles close by in Thendara. Winter enthusiasts also enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing at McCauley Mountain, which provides 21 ski trails and is home to a number of Olympic skiers.

Steps away from The Forge Motel is Rivett’s Marine, renting pontoon and fishing boats, SUPs, pedal boats and more. Just a few minutes’ walk are also the public beach and tennis courts, open 7 days/week through the summer. A short drive north, Bald Mountain is must-see for a picturesque hike. The Enchanted Forest Water Safari, New York’s largest water theme park is located right here with family rides and attractions.
